Measurement - Tallest to Shortest

In Room 8, we are learning to order things from tallest to shortest at the moment. This week our topic activity for maths was to use a camera to take a photo of our maths group standing in order of tallest to shortest. To do this, we made signs that said "tallest" and "shortest" and gave them to the tallest person and the shortest person to hold. So Mrs Hamilton would know who ordered the group and took the photo, we got the middle person to hold a sign saying who the photo was by.

Social Studies: Changes in the last 100 years in Venn Diagrams

We have been looking at the big changes that have happened in the last century (which means 100 years) as part of our production and centennial. Today, we looked at old School Journal stories in groups, and made Venn Diagrams to show how the world had been changed by events, like the invention of electricity, and also how some places had changed, like hospitals and schools. We talked about how technology has improved all areas of life, so that we don't use heaps of the things that we used in the past!

Room 8 at Football Kids NZ

On Monday, Room 8 got to go to Football Kids NZ. It was on the field. When we got there, Matthew introduced himself and got us a ball each.

Next we went into a square made of cones. He told us to put different parts of our body on the ball, and then to balance the ball on our noses. That was hard! We also had to balance it on the back of our necks and roll it down our backs and catch it.

Then he taught us how to play some games. The games were Cowboys and Indians, Shark Attack and Ball Rush. They were pretty fun games. Our favourite was Cowboys and Indians, where we had to pick a chief to lead the Indians across the field while the Cowboys kicked balls at them. If you got hit by a ball (which was a bullet) below the knees, you became a Cowboy or Cowgirl too.

It was awesome and we had a great time. We would like to go again!

100 Days of Learning Celebration

Today we have officially been at school for 100 days! Only 100 more to go! To celebrate, we shared our learning with our parents and did lots of exciting activities to do with 100, like making a times table centipede, drawing ourselves as a 100 year old, and coming up with a list of 100 words. We also did a folk dance and had a special assembly to celebrate 100 days of learning. Check out the movie to see us in action!

Term 3 Goal Setting

Welcome to Term 3 in Room 8! There are lots of exciting things happening this term, not just in Room 8 but all around Grey Lynn School. We are getting ready for our centennial celebration, which includes our production as well as lots of other special events, but we will also be doing really fantastic reading, writing and maths!

It is now the holidays and Room 8 has two whole weeks off. However, before we left, we reflected on our learning by doing a P(Plus) M(Minus) I(Interesting). Every holiday day, there will be a new PMI for our overseas audience to see. We hope you enjoy them!

Year Three Speech Finals

Today we had the Year Three speech finals at our Puriri Team Assembly. We finished our class speeches a week ago and our two finalists, James and Isobel, had been practicing hard ever since.

There were four people in the finals, two from Room 8 and two from Room 9. Sepora and Mr Barker were our judges, and after hearing the finalists, they awarded James second place, and Isobel third place. Room 8 were very proud of our two finalists, they were great.
